In a press conference given, Thursday January 8th, The Hon. Lillian Boyce responded to her dismissal earlier in a day filled with political drama. The Hon. L. Boyce defended her position as being honorable, submitting that her intentions in respect of seeking the removal of the Premier, The Hon. Dr. Michael E. Misick, by means of a Vote of No-Confidence, along with 7 party colleagues, including the Deputy Premier, was in fact pure.

She explained that although disappointed by and the manner in which she was relived of her responsibilities in her position as Minister of Health, she confided that she “knew this day would come” when she made plain her decision that she could no longer serve at the pleasure of the Premier in good conscience.

Boyce said further that she put her personal feelings aside and decided that she and her colleagues “must place country before self”.

Boyce commended her colleagues, especially the Minister of Finance, The Hon. Floyd B. Hall, for their efforts in trying to improve the lives and reputation of the Turks and Caicos by standing their ground.

She explained that the goal she and the other Ministers in No-Confidence Vote process as being not that of destruction of the PNP party. Echoing previous comments, she said, “This is not about me or my colleagues, but rather about the people of the Turks and Caicos islands.”

She concluded her statement by saying, “If we do not stand for something, we will fall for anything. We must do something right. “

After Boyce, The Hon. Karen Delancy MP gave a statement urging the citizens to support her and her PNP colleagues’ position.

Delancy’s statement was intended to rebuke points made in the address to the nation on the previous evening by Premier Michal Misick.

She explained her outrage as she listened to his statement and described it as being, “cynical, patronizing and insulting to the general population of the Turks and Caicos.”

She went on to state, “The saddest part is that our own people are being used against each other“, saying further that the comments from Premier Misick were, “disingenuous and unbecoming of a leader in any circumstance.“ “People speak through their representatives,” she said, and “by our estimation, 11 potential votes against the Premier is 85% of the elected members. How much more clearly can we speak”? she asked.

The other Parliamentary Members supporting the No-Confidence Vote and present at the press conference were The Hon. Wayne Garland, The Hon. Samuel Been and The Hon. Greg Lightbourne. They attested to having been “long been frustrated by the Premier’s “conspicuous extravagance”, an excess The Premier denies, though he admits, “mistakes were made”.

The Group of 7 PNP Ministers intimated that they “fully expected a new Premier would be sworn in after the next session of government.” Delancy finished her statement in this context saying: “Whenever we return to government, we have every expectation to the motion to remove the Premier from office“ would be tabled and carried.
