Premier's Reaction to Extension
Upon hearing the news of the Governors decision to extend the deadline for the Commission of Inquiry final report, Premier Hon. Galmo Williams made the following statement:

“I was informed today of a decision by H.E. the Governor, Gordon Wetherell to delay the submission of the Final Report of the Commission of Inquiry. While we recognize the authority of the British to take such measures as are implied by the eventuality of the Report, this delay means that the government of Turks and Caicos, elected by the people of Turks and Caicos, continues for another 30 days. I want to be frank and open about these specific periods of our continued governance and I want, especially to draw attention to those who saw it as futile that my government released a “90 Day Plan”, in the face of possible suspension of our Constitution and with it, parliamentary government. I hope those who seemed to think we should just sit still until the inevitable suspension takes place now see that if we can govern our country for only one day, we must fill each unforgiving minute with the most relentless effort to improve the lives of our people. That is my resolve, and I can tell you, we will continue to work to put our case to the British for non-suspension while we will pursue our 90 Day agenda, without care that our chances to achieve our aims may end sooner than we prefer. I call on every Civil Servant, every Public Officer and Agency Head to continue to work for the people of this country and to continue to apply the laws, rules, regulations and policies of the Turks and Caicos Islands without fear or favor affection or ill will.

In the next week, I will come before this country to explain what we have done so far, and to reveal what we have presented to the Governor as our agenda going forward. Mainly, I want our people to see these additional 30 days as “days of grace”. And given that, we must make every effort to take advantage of them by making a positive impact on the lives of our people. My government and I remain committed to that end.

May God bless and guide us and may He continue to bless our beautiful Turks and Caicos Islands.”

Hon. Galmo Williams
