This decision stems from the ongoing recovery efforts by residents of those islands after the devastation of hurricane Hanna and Ike. Residents of Salt Cay, Grand Turk and South Caicos are rebuilding their lives slowly , as the 2009 hurricane season is fast approaching.

Being aware of the upcoming hurricane season Premier Williams has move swiftly to ensure that those residents of Salt Cay, Grand Turk and South Caicos receive the reduction in import duties so that they can continue rebuilding and returning to normalcy in their lives.

In addition to the reduction of the import duty for those affected by Hurricane Hannah and Ike the Williams-Robinson administration has also continued with the extension of stamp duty reduction.

With the global economic recession continuing the TCI Government has taken the position that the extension stamp duty reduction will sort to further stimulate the economy.

In a joint interview with the Premier and Deputy Premier, Premier Williams stated that one of his utmost objective is to promote, protect and sustain our nations economy in this current global economic meltdown.
