Former Consultative Forum member Dr. Linda Williams says she has decided not to seek election to the Turks and Caicos Islands House of Assembly in the November elections. “Instead, I will offer myself to both the government and the opposition to give professional support for initiatives that are analogous to those that are part of my belief system and for which they might desire the additional help,” Williams said in an Aug. 8 statement. “So, to a considerable extent, I maintain a willingness to join the new leadership which are acceptable to a changed electorate and committed to channeling the growing nationalistic spirit in a constructive direction.” Williams resigned from the forum in June because she was considering running as an independent at-large candidate, but she said she decided for a number of reasons not to run. “I hope the approaching political contest will be responsible and produce a robust discussion of the real, material issues. I hope that from this contest the leadership that emerges will be relentless in their efforts to cultivate an atmosphere that reinforces the virtues of faith, mutual respect and trust. These are the qualities that will enable us to become better craftsmen of our fate and active agents in our fiscal recovery.” Click here to read Williams' full public statement
