Applications are being sought through Aug. 28 from qualified Turks and Caicos Islands for the position of deputy governor. His Excellency the Gov. Ric Todd also signed a proclamation Aug. 7 that will bring the revised Constitution into force Oct. 15 in anticipation of elections to be held Nov. 9. Under the new Constitution, the deputy governor will be a member of Cabinet and head of the civil service, managing performance of permanent secretaries and overseeing civil service reform. The deputy governor also will be accountable for contract management and corporate performance, inward investment, and internal and external communications. Candidates for the position must have “substantial experience as a senior public servant, including in senior management and leadership positions in the civil service, a statutory body or other public body and still eligible to hold public office,” the job description says. “The deputy governor is an important and challenging role with a wide range of responsibilities including (being a) member of the Cabinet,” said the governor, whose responsibilities the deputy will assume when the governor is out of the country. On signing the Constitution proclamation, the governor said, “I am very pleased at the progress being made towards the elections date of 9 November. The signature of this proclamation brings us one step and one task closer to achieving our shared objective of returning the Turks and Caicos Islands to elected government.” A detailed job description and application form are available from the Governor’s Office by calling 946-1802 or e-mailing
