Summer is here, which not only means it’s time to turn on the air conditioning, it also means the kids are out of school. But in the Turks and Caicos, the summer does not equal bored kids. There is lots of fun to be had for kids of all ages. Cultural & Environmental Share the joy of exploring the cultural and natural heritage in fun and creative ways at this year’s Cultural and Environmental Camp hosted by the Turks and Caicos National Trust. Under the theme Developing National Pride, children will be exposed to a host of activities which include learning folk songs and dances, and cultural activities such as basket weaving and local art. There will also be a field trip, tree planting and other sessions relating to the environment. The camp will run from July 16-21 from 8:30 a.m.– 2:30 p.m. for children ages 6-12. Registration is $55, which includes lunch, all materials required, the field trip and membership to the Junior National Trust program. Junior Park Warden Learning about the environment around you while having the time of your life is the promise of the Department of Environment and Maritime Affairs (DEMA) to those who join in the Junior Park Warden Programme 2012. The programme for children ages 13-19 will include swimming, snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, camping and much more. Starting Monday, July 9, thru Saturday, July 21, the daily camp will take place from 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the National Environmental Centre on the Lower Bight Rd on Providenciales. Grace Bay Club Kids Camp The Grace Bay Club is gearing up for a busy summer with another action-packed and fun-filled summer program. Daily and weekly camps are available where children ages 5-12 have the chance to participate and gain experience in a variety of activities, such as field trips and excursions, theme days, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, marine studies and local ecology, organic arts and crafts, evening eco-tours and campouts, Caribbean culture and more. For kids 11-15 watersports-based programs will run throughout the summer with an emphasis on adventure and challenge. Camps run July 2-Sept. 2, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Prices start at $40 for a half day, and special weekly rates are available. Sports Camp at the Graceway Sports Centre Have fun while being active at this summer’s Graceway Sports Centre camps. A tailored range of fun-filled activities for children ages 5-12 with an assortment of sporting and non-sporting activities that combine fun and learning. The camp will be split into two age groups to maximize each child’s experiences and will include morning sports rotations such as tennis and soccer from 9 a.m.-noon, followed by a lunch break. The afternoon begins with a special guest speaker and finishes off with more sports and activities including indoor sports, arts and crafts, and interactive games. The summer programs are run by qualified staff that promise to pack loads of excitement and fun into each day while ensuring children’s safety. The daily rate for the camp is $20 for the first child and $15 for each additional child from the same family. Price is fully inclusive, covering all sessions and activities, as well as morning snacks. Children must bring their own lunch and beverages.
