Another member of the Consultative Forum has resigned this week, the fourth member to leave the Forum in the past four weeks. Guilaine Brutus announced at the end of the Forums session Wednesday, June 27, that she would be leaving the group to pursue her studies in the U.K. Brutus has served on the Consultative Forum since its inception in August 2009. She said it was her participation in the Forum that lead her to the decision that she would like to further her education so she can contribute even more to the country in the future. Brutus’ resignation follows the recent resignations from Dr. Linda Williams and Karen Delancy to pursue their political careers. In May, although an election date had yet to be set, His Excellency the Gov. Ric Todd informed members of both the Advisory Council and the Consultative Forum that they would need to step down if they intended to run for elected office in the upcoming elections. Williams said she resigned her post from the Consultative Forum because she is considering running for the House of Assembly as an independent at-large candidate. “I am thoughtfully and prayerfully considering the notion of vying for a seat under the at-large electoral category in the upcoming elections,” Williams said. “I have not come to a definitive position on this matter. I have not aligned myself with neither of the political parties and I have no intention of doing so.” Delancy has said she will seek the nomination by the Progressive National Party as a constituent candidate in the Bight on Providenciales. Cartwright-Robinson, former chairwoman of the People’s Democratic Movement, said she was fired by the governor. She has announced that she will seek the nomination to run as an at-large candidate for her party. Fellow Forum member John Phillips followed Brutus’ announcement by encouraging anyone in the community who is interested in serving their country to step forward and fill the four empty seats.
