FortisTCI has launched two new student educational programs that will start this summer. The first program is called the Student Summer Employment Programs (SSEP) and is intended for pupils who are enrolled in a university or college undergraduate programs with a major in either accounting, business, engineering, information technology, law or marketing. The second employment opportunity, called the Summer Internship Program (SIP), will aim to expose high school students to a professional working environment for two full working weeks throughout each summer. FortisTCI student program coordinators invited high school principals, TCI Community College representatives and Ministry of Education officials to their Leeward Highway headquarter’s conference room to explain the two employment opportunities and how it will benefit their pupils. SSEP has been developed to expose participants to the utility industry while also encouraging growth in young adults pursuing their respective career paths by providing them with the opportunity to apply what they have learned in the classroom in a real working environment. SSEP will run each year from June through August and include five successful candidates. The Summer Internship will show participants how to interact in a highly developed workplace while showcasing various professional fields. Applicants for SIP must be in fourth or fifth form, obtain a recommendation letter from their guidance or career counselors and submit a 250-word essay entitled “Why FortisTCI Should Hire Me as an Intern Employee.” “The official launch of SSEP and SIP is another momentous period for FortisTCI,” said Judy Missick, FortisTCI’s director of human resources. “It is a wonderful occasion to be able to open our doors and our workplace to contribute to the human resources development in the TCI.” “Establishing these programs has been a goal of ours for a long time, and we are proud to have the infrastructure in place to accommodate them,” Missick said. “We look forward to sharing our workplace with these bright young scholars, and we look forward to watching them mature,” said Ruth Forbes, vice president of Finance and Chief Financial Officer . “There is nothing more valuable than investing in human resources. This is why we are taking the opportunity to invest from an early age, because we know that one day those that walk our halls and our property as interns and student workers are potential future employees.” Applications for the SIP program are currently being accepted through high schools in the TCI and applications for the SSEP program are currently being accepted through the FortisTCI Human Resource Department.
