Each third grader in the Turks and Caicos Islands now has a personal, in-depth information resource at their fingertips, thanks to Providenciales Rotarians. The Rotary Club handed out 500 personal dictionaries to each third grade students on Providenciales, North Caicos, Middle Caicos, South Caicos and Grand Turk. The 32,000-word dictionary is a Caribbean Island Edition and aimed toward educating students in the Caribbean regions. The dictionary’s features British English spelling and is supplemented by a gazetteer which includes information about punctuation and parts of speech, weights and measures, maps of the continents, and facts about the countries of the world. Students were thrilled to receive the dictionaries and thanked the participating Rotarians for the generous gift. Rotarian Val Kalliecharan spearheaded the project with the assistance fellow Rotarian Mary Hamilton, Owen Hamilton, Art Forbes, John Lawson, Charles Williams and Kanzy Dillon. This will mark the third year that the Rotary Club of Providenciales has distributed the much needed dictionaries to students throughout the TCI.
