The Special Investigation Prosecution Team arrested a 61-year-old man on March 7 in connection with conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office, bribery and money laundering. “This individual has been released on police bail to reappear at a future date,” the SIPT said in a press statement. The team that is investigating allegations of corruption leveled in the 2009 Turks and Caicos Islands Commission of Inquiry report does not identify individuals arrested until they appear in court on charges. If the man is charged, he would be the 14th person charged so far in the ongoing probe into alleged corruption by elected government officials, lawyers and developers. Others charged so far in the investigation include attorney and Progressive National Party Leader Clayton Greene; Greene’s cousin Quentin Hall; Earlson Robinson; former Minister Lillian Boyce; former Minister Jeffery Hall; former Minister Samuel Been; former Minister McAllister Hanchell; former Minister Floyd Hall; his wife Lisa Hall; attorney and former Premier Michael Misick’s brother Chal Misick; attorney Melbourne Wilson; and developers Richard Padgett and Jak Civre. All those charged so far are free on bail and scheduled to appear April 17-18 in the Supreme Court on Grand Turk for hearings to determine if prosecutors have enough evidence to proceed to trial on the charges.
