Courtney Robinson has been appointed as the new director of the Turks and Caicos Islands Red Cross. Robinson will be responsible for managing Red Cross operations throughout the territory. That includes planning for and responding to disasters and emergencies, and coordinating with government and other actors in accordance with the National Disaster Plan and individual contingency plans. “I am humbled by the opportunity to not only serve my fellow men, but also be responsible for and take the lead in providing humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable people in our communities,” Robinson said. “It is my endeavour to be that leader that will form formidable partnerships with stakeholders, decision makers, community groups, volunteers and the general public — thus being that person who will inspire voluntary action to strengthen the Turks and Caicos Islands’ communities to prepare for and respond in times of crisis, while upholding the ethos of the Turks and Caicos Islands Red Cross,” Robinson said. A graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science with a master of science degree in Media and Communications Regulation and Policy, Robinson also holds a First Class honours degree in Public Relations from the University of Westminster in London. Robinson has served as an executive committee member on the National Disaster Executive Policy Committee (2007-2009), The Recovery Task Force (2008-2009), CARICOM Community Climate Change Centre Committee for the TCI (2009) and the Turks and Caicos Islands Government Informal Settlement Task Force (2009). He has also undertaken training in risk mapping and planning in coastal zones, strengthening the capacity of the youth arm of the national AIDS program, and media as advocates for children — responding to child abuse in our communities. Robinson once served as director of the TCI Government Information Service, and has more recently worked privately as an organizer and promoter. He was founder and executive producer of TCI Top Model Contest & Fashion Extravaganza, and he has organised numerous projects and events for private companies and non-profits.
