Hurricane tips for contractors and construction suppliers |
|
When a hurricane warning is issued, consider cancelling delivery of building materials to building site except material necessary for preventing storm damage.
Tips for contractors
- When a Tropical Storm or Hurricane is approaching, all temporary boarding and signage must be dismantled and stored in a safe place.
- Building materials, especially those that may become floating and flying objects must be kept in a safe place. Tie or bond together all loose ply-board and lumber and any other loose building materials.
- All equipment and tools must be stored and kept in a safe place.
- Containers, temporary offices and accommodation trailers on the construction site must be properly anchored to the ground (including portable toilets) or removed from the site to a safe location.
- Scaffoldings and forms must be dismantled and stored in a safe place.
- All walls under construction must be properly tied to the stiffener columns.
- All the roof members, which are not properly anchored must be dismantled and kept in a safe place.
- All buildings under construction must be vacated.
- The site must be cleared of all the rubble and debris. This must be taken to an authorized garbage disposal location.
- Turn off the water supply by closing the main valve.
Tips for building materials suppliers:
- Any temporary fencing and signs must be dismantled and stored in a safe place.
- No material should be stored in the open yard unless they are tied down or bonded together.
- Wood, steel sheets, zinc sheets and plywood must be stored in a safe place.
- Containers must be properly anchored to the ground.
- All chemical and hazardous materials must be kept in a dry and safe place.
