LIME workers brave storm to reconnect 911 PDF Print E-mail

Two courageous LIME employees set out in the middle of hurricane force winds to start a generator that powered Emergency 911 operators to Providenciales.

The emergency line went down during the storm, and residents would not have been able to call for help.

When LIME TCI employees Ronald Gardiner and Manford Seymour were made aware of the downed line, they braved the fierce wind and were able to avoid further disruption to services.

“There was no hesitation from Ronald and Manford,” said Audley Gibbs, head of LIME’s Services, Support and Delivery Department. “They put country and fellowmen before themselves. They went out and did what needed to be done to ensure that anyone calling 911 during Hurricane Irene would have heard a voice on the other line.”

When asked for comment, Gardiner and Seymour say that there was nothing heroic in what they did, but LIME TCI recognized them for stepping out in the midst of Hurricane Irene to enable 911 to assist those who needed help.

LIME reported that it did not have any interruption in service during the hurricane, and that customer’s throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands were able to make calls, send texts and use data.

As with other local carriers, LIME worked in conjunction with Department of Disaster Management to keep customers abreast of status of the Hurricane via text messages.
