Police briefs: Sexual Offence unit gets training in Barbados PDF Print E-mail

Two police officers from the newly formed Sexual Offence Domestic Violence unit were sent to Barbados recently to attend a Pan-Caribbean Police Conference on Supporting Victims of Sexual Assaults.

The conference covered numerous topics ranging from sexual equality, cultural and religious issues, approaches to sexual crime prevention, achieving best evidence to judicial process, human rights and the rights of a fair trial.

Approximately 40 representatives from across the Pan-Caribbean region including Overseas Territories attended this conference. Inspector Irene Butterfield, officer in charge of the TCI unit, presented on the processes now being employed by her newly formed unit.

Burglary suspect caught in act by new police crime unit

Members of the newly formed Street Crime Unit and Beat and Patrol Unit successfully apprehended a male subject red-handed after he had broken into a home in Juba Sound on Providenciales July 21.

The arrest led to the recovery of property stolen from this burglary. Further investigation has linked this subject to numerous other burglaries throughout the island of Providenciales, police said.
