This year’s MAF Inspirational Award goes to Raymond Gardiner High School Deputy Head Boy Richard Dorvil, a young man who is innovative and shows initiative. He sees when something needs to be done, and he gets it done.

A wise man once said that, “No matter what you can see, there is always more.”

The profundity in these words became more apparent as the high school watched an amazing transformation take place in a particular student. There seemed nothing unique about him, and yet today he stands as an inspiration to any student who dares to make a difference and to prove that the best is, indeed, yet to come.

We watched this transformation and soon saw a mind which mirrored great promise. It is true that with the transformation of the mind comes the transformation of the whole man.

Teachers were forced to stop and stare for he eventually embodied that positive essence even in his stride. Indirectly, he made the statement that “The Best Is Yet to Come!”

Amidst grave personal struggles, he has made an academic leap. He is also known for his outstanding contribution to and achievements in sports. His leadership qualities have earned him the command and respect of a form that is deemed to be a tough set of boys to supervise.

Richard assumed the position as prefect and executed his duties with much admiration from teachers, administrators and the rest of the student body.

The MAF Inspirational Award was founded by North Caicos native and attorney Mark A. Fulford to encourage students of Raymond Gardiner High School to beat the odds and stigma in life.

The criteria for receiving the award is a student who exhibits an ambitious attitude and most improved academically but excels socially displaying good leadership qualities.

Dorvil is the third recipient of the annual award.
