A man was arrested March 17 on Grand Turk by members of the Special Investigation and Prosecution Team and later released, the team has confirmed.

“Understandably, the SIPT will not identify any person subject of their investigations to ensure that their rights are protected now and in the future,” the team said.

The arrest was the second known so far in the SIPT’s more than year long investigation prompted by Sir Robin Auld’s Commission of Inquiry in early 2009 that made numerous allegations against former Premier Michael Misick, several of his former ministers and others.

A woman was arrested Jan. 18 on Providenciales and released after questioning.

While no criminal charges have yet been made, the governor has said more than a dozen cases are “well advanced” and that the probe is on track to begin prosecutions this year.

Lead Prosecutor Helen Garlick has said the investigations have led to five or six other countries, including the U.S., and cover political activity over the last 10 years.
