![]() Growing the sport of tennis among the youth of the Turks and Caicos Islands has been a goal of the Graceway Sports Center since it opened its doors to the community in 2005. Today, thanks to their enthusiastic on-site tennis coach, Rey Garcia, that dream is gaining momentum. “There are so many talented young tennis players, and we want them to have the opportunity to really develop their skills and enjoy the game of tennis,” Garcia explains. It is a proven fact that being involved in sports is vitally important for the physical as well as mental health of children. It also helps them to develop skills that can benefit them for their whole lives. “Tennis is such a great sport for children because they learn not only important physical skills such as coordination, but also life lessons like discipline and determination,” Garcia says. This year the Graceway Sports Center’s Tennis Club is offering the opportunity for local businesses to help support the sports center in its efforts to bring tennis to more local children. “We are now offering many different types of advertising opportunities on our courts, with all proceeds going towards building better Tennis Programs for children,” adds Garcia. Garcia plans to offer free tennis programs to find and train the talented youth of Providenciales as well as tennis kids camps over the holidays. Various sponsorship packages are available for companies interested in helping develop the future tennis stars of tomorrow right here in the TCI. Through Rey’s efforts in recent months, the sports center has successfully held several tennis tournaments for adults and most recently their first juniors tournament. Several young, talented players turned out for the three-day tournament which offered both singles and doubles match play. “The tournaments are growing in popularity and helping us to create a ladder system which allows for more people to get involved in the sport throughout the community,” he says. Sponsorship opportunities include the chance for local companies to have their company banner hung on one of the four lighted courts at the Graceway Sports Center centrally located on Providenciales behind the Graceway IGA on Leeward Highway.
