Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson says she is happy to accept the invitation to lead the National Conversation, what she believes is the "best way forward."

People's Democratic Movement Leader Douglas Parnell called on the people Nov. 19 to start what he called a National Conversation aimed at creating a plan for the future of the country. He hopes to use this opportunity to gather the views of the people that he can present to the British, inviting them to the table to talk about the future of the country.

"We must begin to match heads with heads instead of butting heads. We can not continue to reject only but must offer solutions and recommendations for our country’s road map ahead," Cartwright-Robinson said.

In order to remove party politics from the process, Parnell asked Cartwright-Robinson to take the lead role in the project.

"I can assure that there is no ulterior motive or devious plan. I am simply happy to able to serve in this era of transformation which is necessary: transformation of ideas; plans and attitudes. It is time to change the national conversation and engage in solution oriented dialogue," Cartwright-Robinson said.

"This national conversation is simply a process where the people of these Islands will be called upon to make every effort to attend public meetings which will be held around the Islands and during which major issues affecting these Islands will be discussed," she explained.

"Over the past year, we have not heard much of the British plans but have seen a lot put into place and many times without our consent or consultation," Cartwright-Robinson said. "To this end, I believe that we must take our role as partners, as set out in the White Paper entitled 'Progress through Partnership' seriously."

At the end of this process, a document will be compiled and presented to the governor, CEO, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, chairman of the All Party Group and TCI Committee, and various U.K. ministers including the Minister for the Overseas Territories Hon. Henry Bellingham.

Early next week a schedule of meetings will be released and publicized and other initiatives to engage public dialogue are expected to be announced.

"Please I am urging us to take this exercise seriously and make every effort to attend and represent our views and beliefs for the future of our country and the path it should take. We are simply trying to take those ongoing discussions to one central place and send it to where it really matters," she added.
