A robbery outside a retail store on the island of Providenciales left one man dead and another in critical condition. The incident happened shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, when masked gunmen robbed a security guard and employee outside the Do It Center on Leeward Highway. The security guard, who was reported to be transporting cash deposits, was approached in front of the store by two masked gunmen who demanded the money. The robbers stole the cash as well as the vehicle the guard was traveling in and fled the scene. Shots were fired and the two robbers were injured. One robber only got a short distance from the scene before exciting the stolen vehicle on to the side of Leeward Highway. The other robber got into an accident whilst driving the stolen vehicle on Cooper Jack Bay road. The two men were transported to the Cheshire Hall Medical Facility. The stolen cash was recovered by police. “Both were admitted to the emergency department suffering serious gunshot wounds to their heads and upper bodies,” said Kathleen Bree, Interhealth Canada TCI’s chief nursing officer. “Doctors and medical staff administered advanced and prolonged treatment, however one of the two men was pronounced dead shortly after 7 p.m.” “The second victim was transferred to the high dependency unit where he remains in a critical condition.” Hospital officials are prohibited from releasing names of patients, and police did not release the names or nationality of the two who were shot.
