Project 911 officers are once again imploring on the public’s support on two of its recent programmes, namely displaying business addresses. While previous announcements regarding street naming and displaying of street addresses have been made in the past, constant reminders are being given to encourage the public to comply. “As you may be aware, legislation was recently approved in the Consultative Forum that requires all businesses and residences to display their official addresses,” Juliette Gooding of Project 911 said in a statement. Gooding also noted that more support is needed especially from the business community. “It is unfortunate that the business community have not taken the lead in this venture by displaying their addresses prior to legislation making it unlawful not to do so,” she said. “However, we are reminding you at this time to please ensure that your company is complying with the section of the law which stipulates that failure to display the official number as assigned is punishable by a fine.” Gooding said that the organization is willing to help business owners and landlords comply with the law. “If you do not yet know your official business address, please do not hesitate to contact our office so that we can confirm that number for you. In addition, we can order the numbers for you to ensure their compliance with the standard guidelines that have been produced, or you may opt to obtain your number separately which must comply with the minimum standards. “In the event that your office is located in a complex that is owned and managed by a landlord, the landlord has responsibility for ensuring the number is displayed, and we would ask that you remind said landlord of his responsibility.” 911’s reminder is especially important at this time when crime has been on the increase across the country. Responses to calls to 911 can be delayed if emergency or police services can’t find a residence or business. Meanwhile, the Street Naming Committee is seeking the public’s help in officially naming the roundabout in Five Cays that is maintained by PPC. The guidelines for naming are:
You can suggest names on the Internet at www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22BA4CRHK4G. The person whose suggestion is chosen by the naming committee will be recognized and contacted by phone or e-mail.
