The 14th Annual TCI National Awards Ceremony will recognize 179 students from government and private schools for their exceptional achievements in the CXC, GCE and IGCSE Examinations. Under the theme “Celebrating the Past — Igniting the Future,” the ceremony will be held on North Caicos for the first time at 11 a.m. Nov. 12 on Horse Stable Beach in Whitby, hosted by the National Council of External Examinations and the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture. This year’s top candidates are: 1st: Rashunda Campbell, Raymond Gardiner High School (10 CXC Gen. 1’s, 1 Gen. 2 and 2 Gen. 3’s) Students will receive special awards in categories including business, science, foreign languages, technical vocational, hospitality, students achieving five or more distinctions at one sitting, and students achieving 10 or more passes. Awards Committee Chairman David Bowen said it should be noted that a total of 30 students this year graduated with 10 or more passes, and there has been great improvement in the number of students graduating with passes in both English and Mathematics. There has also been an increase in the quality of results with students obtaining more CXC Gen. 1’s and Gen. 2’s instead of Gen. 3’s. “The National Council of External Examinations congratulates all our prospective awardees for their achievement. We are also thankful to their supportive parents, guardians, teachers and educational institutions throughout the TCI for maintaining consistently good performances in external examinations over the years. “The Committee would also like to use this opportunity to encourage the general public to come out and support the National Awards Ceremony which will be hosted for the first time in North Caicos.”
