The Gender Affairs Unit and the National AIDS Programme are in the process of planning a youth forum dubbed “Youth Speak” to create an opportunity for young women and men to articulate the burning issues that affect their ability to function and be productive citizens within the TCI.

The programme, aimed at youth between ages 16 and 27, is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 5, on  Providenciales in the Five Cays Community Centre from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Forum objectives

  • To empower young people by having their concerns brought to the fore
  • To allow for the sharing of psycho-social and socioeconomic issues that our young people are faced with
  • To allow young people to determine programmes they would want established to address their concerns

Areas for discussion

  • Employment
  • Scholarships
  • Teenage pregnancy
  • Violence and rime
  • Gang violence
  • Self esteem, self image and self respect amongst young people
