Delton Jones visited the causeway June 13 with an official from the European Union who originally funded the development of the causeway. “She is currently having discussion with engineers we might consider with future funds they have earmarked for the TCI,” said Permanent Secretary of Finance Delton Jones. “It is possible something might come out of that.” In the interim, the causeway will continue to be graded to keep it passable, Jones said. “We know it is essential to the lifeline of Middle Caicos.” Although Jones confirmed the project is a high priority item, it may still take some time before new works will occur because more technical studies need to be done. “We need to thoroughly know why, what happened and make any necessary changes to the design and specifications and make changes to that before we go forward,” he said. In addition, the governor also confirmed the government continues to look at funding possibilities for the South Caicos airport tower, including the funds provided by the U.K.’s disaster fund.
