Misick considers run for PNP leader PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Former premier Michael Misick says he is considering a return to Turks and Caicos Islands politics as leader of the Progressive National Party.

“I have been asked by hundreds of party faithful to consider running for the leadership of the great PNP Party,” Misick said in a written statement dated May 15. “I will consider it and make an announcement on my decision in due course. Be confident that whatever decision I make it will be what I think is in the best interest of the party and the country that I love.”

Others already seeking PNP leadership are Digicel TCI CEO E. Jay Saunders and lawyers Carlos Simons and Clayton Greene.

Misick served as chief minister and premier from 2003 until he resigned from office in February 2009 shortly after a Commission of Inquiry. In the July 2009 commission report, Sir Robin Auld leveled accusations of corruption against Misick and others that are now under investigation by the Special Investigation and Prosecution Team.

As he has said in previous statements, Misick denied any wrongdoing and accuses the U.K. of undermining him and destroying the country’s economy and government finances.
