“We need your help,” was the message Commissioner of Police Mr. Edward Hall gave at an afternoon press conference Sunday December 6th. Royal Turks and Caicos Police are not confirming or denying any rumours regarding the early morning findings of two crime victims in Providenciales, however they are asking for any one with any information to come forward.
After calling on the publics help late Saturday night to find two missing persons, the police were saddened to find a dead body and a critically injured person on the north side of the airport behind Avis rental car in Providenciales. Police representatives said, early Sunday morning they found the dead body of 35 year old Dorsette Gardiner along side the body of Claudette Rigby. Ms Rigby was badly injured and transported to the Myrtle Rigby Clinic were she was able to be stabilised and airlifted to Miami for treatment. “Today is a sad day for Turks and Caicos Islanders,” Commissioner Hall expressed his sympathy for the families of the victims. “We are appealing to members of the public to feel free to contact us or Crime Stoppers with any information they may have regarding this crime.” The vehicle of the victim was found a great distance away from where the bodies were found. Both were wounded, Mr. Gardiner reported to have had a head trauma which may have caused his death. A post mortem is scheduled for Monday, after which more details are expected to be released. Police say they are considering the death of Mr. Gardiner a homicide, the fourth for this year. “There is a need for all of us to get involved in fighting crime,” Hall said appealing to citizens to be more forthcoming of information and in their assistance of preventing crime. “Crime prevention is everyone’s business.” Currently there are no suspects in custody, but Hall said he has been briefed on the current state of the investigation and although he was not willing to divulge many details, he is confident they will be successful in apprehending the perpetrators of this crime.
