Police briefs: Immigration officer believed drowned PDF Print E-mail

Police have identified a man who is believed to have drowned March 14 in a swimming pool on Providenciales.

Benston Williams, 43, an immigration officer, was discovered floating in a swimming pool at Clareece Been Apartments in Juba Sound at about 4:15 p.m.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre,  where he pronounced dead at 5:10 p.m.

Police are investigating.

Grand Turk man sentenced to 16 months for fighting

A Grand Turk man has been jailed for 16 months after being found guilty of wounding, fighting in a public place and common assault, police said.

The wounding and fighting in a public place charges against Reron Williams related to an incident at a wedding reception in October.

Williams got into an argument with Omar Harvey. An altercation followed, with Williams inflicting seven stab wounds to his victim.

In a separate case, Williams was also found guilty of common assault on Kristan Williams at Rankin Joe’s Night Club in December.

Man convicted of selling stolen goods to owner

A man who sold stolen items back to their owner has been given a suspended jail sentence, police said.

Drexel Wilson of West Road, Grand Turk, pleaded guilty March 13 to the handling stolen goods for selling a set of poker chips for $20 to Robert Tucker.

On examination of the chips, Tucker realised they actually belonged to him and had been stolen from his premises a few days earlier.

Wilson was given a 12-month suspended sentence and ordered to pay $300 immediately and $646 within 28 days.
