![]() With the hurricane season already in full swing, the Turks and Caicos Islands Red Cross could not be happier for a generous donation from the Turks & Caicos Islands Yellow Pages. Global Directories (formerly known as Caribbean Publishing Company), publishers of the Turks & Caicos Islands Yellow Pages, recently provided a donation of $2,000 to TCI Red Cross. Linda Sweeney, director of the TCI Red Cross, says the funds will be spent on disaster response and humanitarian relief supplies as part of the Red Cross disaster management programme, which includes two distinct elements — disaster preparedness and disaster response. “For so many people who are in great need across the world, the Red Cross offers the only real chance of hope,” she said. “We are often one of the first humanitarian organisations able to reach people when conflict or natural disasters destroy families and communities. “Here in Turks and Caicos, the TCI Red Cross is a first response disaster organization. Every year, worldwide, the Red Cross fundraises to ensure we can meet the needs when the time comes.” “We are grateful to the Turks & Caicos Islands Yellow Pages for their kind contribution, as receiving this type of support is essential for rapid response and means we can reach people with vital aid when they need it most,” Sweeney added. Bill Forster, managing director of Marathon Design Works TCI Ltd., local agents for Turks and Caicos Islands Yellow Pages, said “We feel privileged to assist the TCI Red Cross in the development of resources before disaster strikes and would also like to encourage other companies to endorse worthy organizations such as this and help build a strong, supportive community.”
